Shimla: Dog Steals Human Leg at Chamiyana Hospital, Raises Security Concerns
A dog that took a leg removed after surgery from the biomedical waste room at Shimla’s Chamiyana Super Specialty Hospital was seen roaming the hospital premises even on Wednesday. So far, neither the leg has been recovered nor has the dog been caught, raising serious concerns about security arrangements in the hospital and around the biomedical waste room.
Despite spending crores on the Chamiyana Super Specialty Hospital, a proper security wall has yet to be installed. The hospital administration stated that ongoing construction in the premises prevents full closure. While the government has opened the hospital, adequate security measures are still lacking.
Stray dogs in the hospital premises pose a potential threat to patients, especially children. Senior Medical Superintendent Dr. Sudhir Sharma said that on the night of February 21, all six cleaning staff and the supervisor on duty were issued notices seeking explanations. Staff were deployed to search for the leg, but no results have been found yet.
Local residents expressed concern that the dog, which stole a human limb, could attack others. The incident has highlighted serious gaps in the hospital’s security arrangements.
