Himachal: State Food Commission to Launch Helpline, Consumers Can Lodge Ration Complaints Directly
Consumers in Himachal Pradesh will soon be able to directly report delays or poor-quality food items at ration depots. The State Food Commission will soon launch a helpline number through which complaints can be registered via phone or WhatsApp. The commission has already started the process.
Dr. S.P. Katyal, Chairman of the State Food Commission, stated during his Kullu visit that the helpline will allow complaints about delayed supply or quality issues to reach the commission directly. He added that disaster-affected and sensitive areas will receive a three-month ration quota in advance of the rainy season, including ration for general consumers as well as schools and Anganwadi centers.
To ensure food quality, mobile testing machines will collect samples on-site. The Food Corporation of India, Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and the Food Safety Department will jointly implement this system. The quality of flour will be checked under the National Food Security Act, and processing at mills will occur under the supervision of relevant officials.
Dr. Katyal emphasized that public health will not be compromised. Suggestions are also being collected to further improve the storage and distribution of ration supplies.
