Scar-Free Pediatric Surgeries to Begin Soon at AIIMS Bilaspur
Bilaspur: The Department of Pediatric Surgery at AIIMS Bilaspur is set to soon introduce an advanced Pediatric Cystourethroscope, bringing major relief to children suffering from congenital urinary disorders, urethral obstruction, infections, or stones across Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states. With this development, families will no longer need to travel to major cities like Chandigarh or Delhi for specialized treatment.
The Pediatric Cystourethroscope is a state-of-the-art endoscopic device specially designed for the delicate anatomy of newborns and young children. Measuring approximately 8–8.5 French (around 2.7 mm) in thickness, it enables doctors to perform diagnostic and surgical procedures through the natural urinary passage without making large incisions. Equipped with a 1.9 mm high-definition telescope, it provides clear internal imaging, ensuring greater precision and safety during procedures.
Previously, many complex cases required open surgery involving incisions in the abdomen or lower body, leading to increased pain and longer recovery periods. With this minimally invasive technique, children will experience less pain, no permanent scars, and faster recovery. In many cases, patients may be discharged within hours or the next day, significantly reducing hospital stay and treatment costs.
Experts note that untreated urinary obstructions in newborns can cause severe kidney damage if not addressed in time. The availability of this advanced equipment at AIIMS Bilaspur could prove life-saving in such sensitive cases.
Medical professionals emphasize that precision is critical in pediatric surgery. With modern technology now available locally, even complex cases can be handled more safely and effectively, improving treatment outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for young patients.
