Court Orders Attachment of PWD Properties Over Non-Payment of Land Acquisition Compensation in Rohru
The Additional District Judge of Rohru has ordered the attachment of government properties of the Public Works Department (PWD) due to delayed payment of land acquisition compensation. The order was passed in two petitions related to unpaid compensation.
The court directed that three PWD rest houses in Jubbal, Hatkoti, and Khadapathar, along with the office of the Executive Engineer of Jubbal Division, be attached. The concerned departments have been asked to submit a compliance report by March 17.
The first petition was filed by Chet Ram, resident of Shalad village, Tehsil Jubbal, and the second by Rajesh Kumar. In both cases, the Himachal Pradesh Government, PWD South Zone Shimla, Land Acquisition Collector, District Collector Shimla, and the Executive Engineer of Jubbal Division have been made parties.
The total compensation claimed in the two petitions amounts to approximately ₹3 crore. The issue arises from the 1988–89 road construction in Balai village, Nandpur Panchayat, during which fruit trees from local orchards were cut, and adequate compensation was not provided on time.
