HP: Teacher Posting in CBSE Government Schools to Be Merit-Based
Shimla: Teacher postings in CBSE government schools in Himachal Pradesh will now be based on exam merit. Teachers who score the highest marks will have the option to choose their preferred school. Subsequent selections will be made according to subject-wise merit lists. In cases where multiple teachers apply for the same school, those with higher merit will be given priority.
After the screening test, successful candidates will undergo document verification and counseling to prepare the subject-wise merit list. The School Education Directorate has directed the board to complete the exam and posting process based on a merit-cum-preference system. CBSE curriculum will be implemented in 145 schools across the state starting from the academic session 2026-27.
Director of Education Ashish Kohli explained that if 134 posts are available for a subject, the top scorer will have all 134 options, the second-ranked teacher will have 133 options, and so on. The directorate believes that merit-based postings will ensure teacher quality and maintain balance across schools.
