38 Schools in Himachal Pradesh Merged into Co-Educational Institutions
The Himachal Pradesh School Education Department has merged 38 government senior secondary schools for boys and girls across the state to form co-educational schools. Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar issued a notification for merging schools located within a 500-meter to 1-kilometer radius.
Under this plan, 4-4 schools in Shimla and Bilaspur, 12 in Kangra, 8 in Mandi, 6 in Solan, and 2-2 in Hamirpur and Chamba were merged. Twelve of these schools were PM Shri Model Schools, which also absorbed other schools. All merged co-educational schools will follow the CBSE curriculum from the new academic session.
The Education Department stated that co-education will simplify administrative procedures, balance teacher and staff deployment, optimize infrastructure, and provide students access to national-level curriculum and a competitive learning environment.
Principals of lead schools will take charge of the newly formed co-educational schools, while principals of other schools will report to the relevant Deputy Director’s office until their next posting. All teaching and non-teaching staff will now be under the administrative control of the new school.
Merged schools include Bilaspur, Ghumarwin, Nadaun, Dharamshala, Indora, Dehra, Nurpur, Palampur, Jwalamukhi, Bhangrotu, Jogindernagar, Sarkaghat, Mandi, Arki, Kunihar, Nalagarh, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Bharmaur, and others.
Additionally, the government has converted 21 other schools into co-educational institutions, including Nagrota Bagwan, Kullu, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Rampur, Rohru, Thiyog, Chamba, Ani, Una, and Shimla’s Lalpani School.
