Election Commission to Launch Special Intensive Revision in 22 States & UTs from April
New Delhi — The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin in April 2026 across 22 states and Union Territories. The Commission has written to the Chief Electoral Officers of these regions urging them to complete all preparatory work for the exercise at the earliest.
The SIR is a comprehensive process to thoroughly update and clean the voter lists by adding eligible voters and removing names of deceased, duplicate entries, and those who have moved or are ineligible — aimed at strengthening democratic participation and ensuring election transparency.
The upcoming phase of SIR will cover states and UTs including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and UTs such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
According to the ECI, Bihar has already completed the SIR, and the process is ongoing in several other regions. The nationwide rollout from April aims to bring all remaining states and UTs under the updated electoral roll system.
