Himachal Assembly: RDG Proposal Passed Amid Chaos, CM Sukhku Targets BJP
Amid chaos in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, a proposal to recommend the restoration of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) to the central government was passed unanimously. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu warned that if the RDG is not restored, the state budget could face a 15% cut.
During the session, BJP legislators created a commotion in the Well, forcing the Assembly Speaker to suspend proceedings for 10 minutes. CM Sukhu accused the opposition of not supporting the RDG despite being responsible for exploiting the state’s resources during the previous government. He highlighted alleged mismanagement and misuse of state assets and funds under the former BJP government.
Sukhu emphasized the importance of RDG for development in Himachal, stating it has been granted to the state since 1952. He also referenced historical figures, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to underline the significance of RDG for hill states.
The Assembly proceedings have now been adjourned until March 18. The first phase of the budget session included three meetings, totaling approximately 18 hours and 24 minutes of discussion.
