Chamba: Man Arrested for Serving Five Years as Panchayat Head Using Fake SC Certificate
Chamba: In Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, a man allegedly used a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to contest elections and served as the Panchayat head for five years. The police have now arrested him and initiated further proceedings. The case pertains to Panchayat Guwadi under the Churah sub-division.
According to reports, the case was filed on January 28 at Tisa Police Station following a complaint by Bhagat Ram of Bari village, Khushnagri, Churah. During the investigation, police found that 39-year-old Janm Singh of Dadwari village, Khushnagri, had allegedly obtained a fraudulent SC certificate. Using this certificate, he held the SC-reserved Panchayat head position in Guwadi for five years.
It is alleged that during his tenure, he misused his position and authority, misleading the government. The Naib Tehsildar of Salooni has annulled the certificate in question. Chamba SP Vijay Kumar Saklani stated that after examining evidence and questioning the accused, the police arrested him on Friday. An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. The accused will be presented in Dalhousie Court on Saturday.
