AIIMS Bilaspur to Use Real Human Skeletons for Training, Anatomy Studies to Become More Effective

AIIMS Bilaspur to Procure Real Human Skeletons, Medical Students to Gain Practical Exposure

AIIMS Bilaspur has initiated the process to procure real human skeletons (disarticulated) for medical teaching purposes. Experts believe this step will provide medical students with real-time practical exposure, enhancing the skills and treatment capabilities of future doctors.

Understanding human anatomy is the foundation of medical education. While plastic models have been widely used, studying real bones offers more accurate and in-depth knowledge. MBBS and MD students study osteology under anatomy, and access to real skeletal specimens will strengthen their practical learning.

With real skeletons, students will be able to closely examine bone structures, joint formations, and pathways of nerves and blood vessels. Identifying individual bones and understanding their correct anatomical positions will become easier. Surgical trainees will gain experience closer to real operative conditions, boosting their confidence in handling complex surgeries.

Forensic science students will benefit in estimating age, gender, and cause of death based on bone analysis. Radiology students will better interpret X-rays, CT scans, and MRI reports, as understanding real bone structures is essential for accurate diagnosis.

The term “disarticulated” means the skeleton will not be fully assembled but provided as separate loose bones, allowing students to study each bone individually from all angles. Experts believe improved training will enhance healthcare quality in the region and increase success rates in treating complex medical conditions.
