Himachal: “Tere Mere Sapne” Program to Ensure Successful Marriages, Youth to Receive Counseling – Full Details

“Tere Mere Sapne” Pre-Marital Centers to Curb Domestic Violence in Himachal

In response to the rising cases of domestic violence in Himachal Pradesh, pre-marital counseling for young men and women will now be provided across the state. Pre-marital communication centers, under the program “Tere Mere Sapne,” will be established in all districts to guide eligible youth and provide tips for a successful married life.

The National Commission for Women had directed the Himachal government to set up such centers in every district. Following a recent meeting between the Commission’s chairperson and the Chief Secretary, district commissioners have been instructed to start the centers. Efforts are already underway to establish a center in Kangra, which has been assigned to the Department of Women and Child Development.

Cases of domestic violence are continuously rising in the state. In Kangra alone, 798 cases were reported in 2024-25, and 546 cases have already been reported in 2025-26. Of these, 275 cases were resolved through compromise, while 139 remain pending in courts. According to the department, the majority of cases are linked to alcohol abuse and increased expectations after marriage.

The pre-marital communication centers aim to reduce such incidents and help couples build successful marital relationships.
