ICC Women’s World Cup Winner Renuka Thakur Receives Grand Welcome in Hometown Rohru
After winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, India’s fast bowler Renuka Thakur returned to her hometown Rohru, where locals welcomed her with great honor and celebration. Renuka stated that she drew inspiration from her mother’s hard work, while her uncle Bhupinder Thakur guided and encouraged her. She added that hard work never goes unrewarded, and the World Cup victory is expected to increase girls’ interest in cricket.
Before reaching her home in Parsa, Renuka visited Hatkoti Temple for prayers. After the rituals, locals celebrated her arrival with dhols, flower garlands, and lifting her on their shoulders. She was also honored by MLA Mohan Lal Brakta and the local administration in Rohru, and a grand feast was organized at her home.
Renuka mentioned that competitions are always stressful, but maintaining a happy environment in the dressing room helps cope with pressure. She credited her family’s support and relentless hard work for her achievements. After the World Cup victory, the Himachal Pradesh government announced a cash reward, and she received congratulations from the Prime Minister and all her teammates.
Renuka emphasized, “If the government recognizes talent on time and provides a platform, every young individual can achieve this level.”
Her mother, Sunita Thakur, said that Renuka has brought pride to the village, state, and country. Though her father Keher Singh passed away when Renuka was just two years old, the support of family and the community has helped her fulfill her father’s dreams.
