Lahaul: IO Found Drunk, Accused of Threatening Orchardist Over Phone; Villagers Rush to Police Station, Officer Suspended
A police Investigation Officer (IO) in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh, has been accused of calling an orchardist late at night and threatening him while allegedly being under the influence of alcohol. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage.
Following the alleged threat, angry villagers reached the police station the same night, leading to a tense situation. Taking cognizance of the matter, Lahaul-Spiti SP Shivani Mehla arrived at the station and reviewed the incident.
The SP has suspended the police officer with immediate effect.
According to information, a financial dispute between an orchardist and a trader in Lahaul had recently been resolved through mutual agreement. However, it is alleged that after the settlement, the trader, along with the IO, called the orchardist at night and threatened him, triggering the villagers’ late-night protest.
