Shimla: Major Anti-Chitta Awareness Campaign Launched, Hundreds Participate in Walkathon
A major public awareness campaign against Chitta has been launched in Himachal Pradesh from Saturday. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the Anti-Chitta Walkathon at the historic Ridge Ground by waving the green flag. Hundreds of participants, including the Governor, cabinet members, MLAs, officials, students, and representatives of social organizations, took part in the event.
During the walkathon, the Chief Minister administered a pledge to the public to stay away from drugs and intoxicants. He stated that Chitta is stealing the smiles of children and burning the dreams of youth. The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against Chitta, with life imprisonment and fines of up to ₹10 lakh for trafficking.
The walkathon was held from the historic Ridge to the Chowraha Ground. During the event, children performed Juba dance to promote drug-free and healthy living. The Himachal Police Orchestra also performed. Following this state-level event, similar programs will be organized at district and sub-division levels.
Due to the walkathon, the Chowraha Ground road in Shimla was closed, causing a traffic jam of approximately five kilometers, with commuters stuck for over two hours.
