CM Sukhu lays foundation stone of ‘Himachal Haat’ in Shimla — Boost to rural economy and women empowerment
Shimla, November 12: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today laid the foundation stone of ‘Himachal Haat’ near the Lift in Shimla. Built at an estimated cost of ₹2 crore, the Himachal Haat will serve as a vibrant marketplace showcasing authentic Himachali products and will empower women self-help groups (SHGs) and rural entrepreneurs under the ‘Him Ira’ brand.
The Himachal Haat will comprise 24–25 shops in a modern tensile structure and will be allotted to SHGs from all 12 districts of the state. It will feature rural art, handicrafts, handloom items, food products, and traditional Himachali cuisines — all under one roof, creating a sustainable platform for marketing and livelihood.
The Chief Minister informed that sales under the Him Ira brand have already generated ₹25 lakh in income for SHGs, which is expected to grow further. He also mentioned that food vans provided to SHGs have been generating around ₹50,000 per month, and 60 additional vans will soon be distributed.
CM Sukhu said that the government is working to upgrade facilities in Shimla, including construction of a utility duct worth ₹145 crore to underground electric lines, ensuring round-the-clock water and power supply, and widening the Circular Road to double-lane to ease traffic congestion.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh stated that the Himachal Haat reflects the Chief Minister’s visionary approach toward strengthening women’s empowerment and self-reliance. The project, spread over 4,000 sq ft, is targeted for completion within eight months.
The event was attended by MLAs Harish Janartha, Suresh Kumar, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, and other senior officials.
