HP Sports Quota: 3% Reservation in Government Jobs for Outstanding Players from 59 Sports; 19 New Sports Added
Shimla: Outstanding players from 59 sports will now receive a 3% reservation in government jobs in Himachal Pradesh. In a recent cabinet meeting, 19 new sports were added to the list of eligible sports, and the Personnel Department issued the official notification on Thursday.
Under this new amendment, all departments have been directed to ensure compliance to provide employment and incentives to meritorious players. The newly added sports include Baseball, Para Sports, Rugby, Triathlon, Deaf Sports, Mallakhamb, Kudo, Motor Sports, Pencak Silat, Shooting Ball, Soft Tennis, Roll Ball, Tenpin Bowling, Tug of War, Fencing, Netball, Sepak Takraw, Wushu, and Kickboxing. Previously, the quota was based on 40 sports.
The government has amended the rules to extend the benefits of reservation in government services to outstanding players in the state by including these new sports. The Personnel Department has issued instructions to all administrative secretaries, divisional commissioners, department heads, deputy commissioners, and all boards, corporations, universities, and public sector undertakings.
According to the Personnel Department Secretary, the government had earlier established a 3% reservation for outstanding players in Group A, B, C, and D posts in 1999, 2008, and 2018. Over the past few years, several sports associations and player organizations had demanded the inclusion of additional sports. Following consideration, the list has been revised, and the new arrangement will be implemented immediately across all departments for recruitment processes.
