Himachal: PMGSY Phase-4 to Expand Road Connectivity; Fastag System to Resume at Parwanoo Toll
Under the Prime Minister’s Rural Road Scheme (PMGSY), every village in Himachal Pradesh will have road connectivity by 2029. The fourth phase of this central government initiative will be implemented over the next four years. Currently, villages with a population of over 250 are being connected, and smaller villages will follow. The state government will appeal to the central government to expedite the process.
The Ministry of Rural Development has approved ₹2,271 crore for 294 roads in Himachal. Work is expected to begin next year, with the ministry monitoring the progress. Funds will be released in three phases as construction progresses. Notably, 280 roads are pending due to gift deed and forest clearance issues, and the state government has directed district officials to resolve these matters.
Meanwhile, the Fastag system will resume at the Parwanoo toll barrier on Panchkula-Shimla National Highway 5. Currently, manual tickets are causing long queues during weekends and festivals. Before Diwali, a car fire at the toll plaza damaged several devices, including Fastag equipment. Repair work is now underway, and the Fastag system is expected to be operational within three to four days. On Sunday, around 5,500 vehicles entered Himachal through this toll.
