Himachal to Issue Free Three-Month Licenses for Street Vendors and Fair Stallholders
In Himachal Pradesh, street vendors selling food items and stallholders participating in fairs will now be able to obtain short-term licenses with ease. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has amended its regulations to introduce three-month licenses for such vendors. Notably, these licenses will be completely free of cost.
Earlier, vendors were required to obtain a one-year license, which cost ₹100. Considering the short duration of fairs and temporary events, FSSAI has now introduced short-term licensing to better suit the needs of vendors.
Authorities noted that many vendors previously avoided obtaining licenses, which created difficulties in collecting food samples during events. With the new guidelines in place, operating without a valid license will now lead to strict action.
FSSAI has also improved the online licensing system to streamline the process and make it more accessible for small vendors. The department has clarified that violations of the new rules will result in enforcement actions.
Dr. Atul Kayastha, Assistant Commissioner, District Food Safety Department, confirmed that the new rules have been implemented and that vendors can now easily obtain free three-month licenses.
