Himachal: Disaster Relief Package Increased by ₹30,000, CM Sukhu Announces in Mandi; Orphaned Girl Receives ₹21 Lakh Assistance

Mandi: CM Sukhu increases disaster relief amount, announces ₹21 lakh aid for orphaned girl

Mandi: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday released the first installment of relief funds for disaster-affected families in Mandi. At a program held in Paddal Ground, the CM announced an increase in the disaster relief package from ₹7.70 lakh to ₹8 lakh. Under this, instead of ₹70,000, affected families will now receive ₹1 lakh for purchasing household items.

A total of ₹81.28 crore was allocated to 4,914 disaster-affected families from Mandi, Kullu, and Bilaspur districts. The first installment of ₹4 lakh each was released, and the CM announced that the second installment would be issued immediately once house construction begins.

CM Sukhu said that due to the Forest Act, it is not possible to allocate forest land without the approval of the central government, which is causing difficulties in providing land to some affected families. He also criticized BJP leaders and former CM Jairam Thakur, accusing them of trying to gain political mileage in the name of disaster victims.

For a girl who lost her parents in the disaster, the CM announced a financial aid of ₹21 lakh, which will be deposited as a fixed deposit (FD) in her bank account under the “Children of the State” scheme.

In Mandi district, 717 houses were completely destroyed, and the affected families will receive ₹4 lakh each as relief. Families in Bilaspur and Kullu districts will also be provided direct financial assistance. Partially damaged houses will receive ₹90,000, losses of household goods ₹70,000, and livestock losses between ₹9,000 and ₹55,000.

CM Sukhu also inaugurated Government College Panarsa, constructed at a cost of ₹13.14 crore. He stated that education is the top priority of the state government and that new courses will be introduced to promote employment-oriented education.

Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, former MLA Jawahar Thakur, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
