CPRI Develops Kufri Sahyadri Potato Seeds in Shimla for the First Time, to Supply Seven States
Shimla: The Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) has developed Kufri Sahyadri potato seeds for the first time at its Kufri-Fagu farm in Shimla. This variety is resistant to cyst nematode and late blight disease and is suitable for both consumption and processing.
This year, CPRI has produced a total of 400 quintals of seeds including Kufri Sahyadri, Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Girdhari, Kufri Himalani, and Kufri Karan at the Kufri-Fagu farm. The seeds will be supplied to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and the northeastern states of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh through state governments.
Dr. Brajesh Singh, Director of CPRI Shimla, said that earlier, these seeds were only produced at the Ooty farm in Tamil Nadu. Now, production has also started at Shimla’s Kufri-Fagu farm. The state governments will multiply the seeds and distribute them to farmers through their agricultural departments.
