Himachal: AYUSH Department to Launch Panchkarma Technician Course in 12 Ayurvedic Hospitals

Himachal to Promote Traditional Medicine — Panchakarma Technician Course to Start in 12 Ayurvedic Hospitals

To boost health and medical tourism, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to expand training opportunities in traditional medical systems on the lines of the Kerala model. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the AYUSH Department will launch a one-year Panchakarma Technician Course across 12 Ayurvedic hospitals in the state from the next academic session.

Under the new plan, 252 students will be admitted to the course, up from the current 36 seats, creating new employment opportunities for youth in the growing health sector and strengthening Himachal’s position as a hub for health and medical tourism.

At present, Rajiv Gandhi Government Postgraduate Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Paprola (Kangra), and Regional Ayurvedic Hospital, Chhota Shimla, offer 18 seats each, which will be increased to 36 and 24, respectively. Additionally, new institutions in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Una, Nahan, Nalagarh, Dehra, and Rampur will start the course, each with 16 seats.

The government aims to create a skilled pool of Panchakarma technicians to meet the rising demand for holistic healthcare and to position Himachal Pradesh as a leading destination for medical tourism. A government spokesperson said the state is rich in natural herbs used in Panchakarma therapies, which enhances its potential as a center for health and wellness tourism.
