Cold Wave Intensifies in Himachal, Minimum Temperature Below 5°C in 15 Areas
The cold wave in Himachal Pradesh has intensified, especially in high-altitude regions, while plains and valley areas are experiencing light fog. The minimum temperature in 15 locations has dropped below 5°C, with four places recording sub-zero temperatures. Tabo recorded the lowest at -7.4°C. Wednesday night was the coldest of the season so far. Even Shimla, the state capital, has seen a sharp increase in morning and evening chill.
In Lahaul-Spiti, roads are freezing at night due to sub-zero temperatures, forming black ice, making travel risky. The district administration has advised extra caution on routes like Manali-Leh, Koksar-Kaza, Koksar-Rohtang, and Tandi-Kilara. According to the Shimla Meteorological Center, clear weather is expected across the state until 19 November.
The accumulation of fog on roads has increased slipperiness in many areas. In Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti, the temperature has dropped below zero, and drinking water sources are beginning to freeze. Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana has appealed to travelers to avoid early morning and late evening travel.
