Himachal Government Approves Policy to Revamp 10th Grade Exams; Students Will No Longer Fail

Relief for 10th Grade Students in Himachal: Improvement Policy Approved, ‘Fail’ and ‘Compartment’ Removed

Good news for 10th-grade students in Himachal Pradesh. The state government has formally approved the School Education Board’s Improvement Policy. With this decision, starting from the 10th board exams in March 2026, no student will fail, and there will be no compartment exams. With government approval, the report published in the Amar Ujala edition of 21st July has also been confirmed.

Reduced Academic Pressure for Students
The new policy will reduce academic pressure and provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance. Under the new system, the education board will conduct exams twice a year: the main exam in March and the improvement exam in June–July. Students who do not pass the March exam will get a second chance in June–July, ensuring that an entire year is not wasted.

‘Fail’ and ‘Compartment’ Terms to Be Removed
The new policy will eliminate terms like ‘fail’ and ‘compartment.’ Initially, it will be implemented only for the 10th grade. The education department is also working on the possibility of extending it to the 12th grade. Board Secretary Dr. Major Vishal Sharma confirmed that the Improvement Policy has been approved by the government and a notification will be issued soon.
