Survey Conducted in 6,714 Government Schools; Improvements Planned Based on Findings

Baseline and Endline Assessment of Students Completed in Himachal Government Schools; Corrective Measures to Follow

The Samagra Shiksha Department has conducted a foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) assessment for students of grades 1, 2, and 3 in 6,714 government schools with summer vacations across Himachal Pradesh. A baseline survey was conducted for first-grade students, while second- and third-grade students underwent an endline assessment.

Director of Samagra Shiksha, Rajesh Sharma, stated that around 70,000 students of grades 1 and 2 had undergone a baseline survey in October 2024. Based on the current assessment, students’ FLN levels have been evaluated, and targeted measures will be implemented to improve their learning outcomes.

Himachal Pradesh has a total of 9,719 primary schools, where continuous efforts are being made to strengthen FLN. Assessments in schools with winter vacations will be conducted in February after schools reopen.

Dr. Manjula Sharma, Coordinator of the Nipun Bharat Mission, said the assessment data will be made available through the Vidya Samiksha Kendra chatbot. The survey will provide a clear picture of how the corrective measures are improving students’ foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
