Himachal Cabinet Meeting Today: Key Decisions Likely on Panchayat Elections, Budget Session, and Vacancies

The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet will meet on Monday at 11 a.m. under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The meeting is expected to deliberate on the recent High Court verdict regarding Panchayat elections, following which the government’s next course of action may be decided.

The Cabinet is also likely to finalize the dates for the upcoming budget session. Decisions regarding filling vacancies in various departments, including education and health, may also be taken. Several other departmental agenda items will be discussed during the meeting.

The issue of gap funding payment to Alliance Air for flight services on the New Delhi–Shimla and Shimla–Dharamshala routes will also be placed before the Cabinet Committee. Additionally, strategies to tackle drought-like conditions in the state may come up for discussion.

Face-off Among Ministers

Ministers who have issued contradictory statements are expected to come face-to-face during the Cabinet meeting. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh’s controversial remarks about IAS and IPS officers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been criticized by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh. Meanwhile, Education Minister Rohit Thakur has supported Vikramaditya Singh.

Chief Minister Sukhu has advised the Public Works Minister to refrain from such statements and urged all ministers to focus on their departmental responsibilities.

Review of Cabinet Decisions

A Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting chaired by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi will be held on Tuesday to review Cabinet decisions taken in the interest of the state. The committee will assess decisions that have not yet been implemented. As per the Chief Minister’s directions, officials have been instructed to ensure implementation, after which a report will be submitted to the Chief Minister.
