Himachal to Appoint 800 English and Maths Teachers in CBSE Schools for Five Years
In Himachal Pradesh, 800 English and Maths teachers will be appointed for five years in CBSE-affiliated, Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding, and other government schools with a monthly salary of ₹30,000. They will be paid for ten months in an academic year. Recruitment for both subjects will be conducted directly through the State Selection Commission.
These teachers will not be considered regular government employees and will receive only the benefits specified under the scheme. CCS rules, pension, or regular service rules will not apply. Additionally, each CBSE school will have one NTT, special teacher, wellness teacher, and vocational teacher. All classes will be taught in English medium.
Merit-Based Recruitment
After making English a compulsory subject from classes 1 to 12, there was a shortage of teachers. Previously, appointments were made through PTA, SMC, and other temporary arrangements, which did not ensure quality or transparency. The new policy will follow Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, and recruitment will be merit-based. The focus will shift from rote learning to skill-based and practical teaching.
Eligibility and Age Limit
English teachers must have an MA in English, B.Ed, and a required percentage in English at the undergraduate level. Maths teachers need an MA/MSc in Maths along with B.Ed. The age limit for both subjects is 25 to 45 years. Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) will receive relaxation in marks as per rules.
Benefits and Other Details
Teachers will be entitled to 12 casual leaves, TA/DA for official work, and benefits under HimCare and Ayushman Bharat health schemes. They may also take extra classes if needed and can be deployed as substitute teachers during others’ leave. School heads may post them for short durations in cluster or nearby government schools.
