Shimla: Two‑Storey House Reduced to Ashes in Batada Village, 30 Apple Trees Also Destroyed
A fire broke out around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Batada village of Tikker tehsil in Shimla district, completely engulfing a two‑storey house belonging to Krishna Devi and her husband Shyamlal. The blaze quickly became intense, and approximately 30 apple trees surrounding the house were also destroyed, causing significant loss to local horticulture.
Firefighters responded promptly to the scene, and with the help of local residents, government officials, and revenue staff, the blaze was eventually contained. By that time, the house had been fully consumed by fire and all household belongings reduced to ashes. The administration has provided the affected family with an immediate relief amount of ₹10,000 and is arranging temporary accommodation for them. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear, though a short‑circuit is suspected pending further investigation. A detailed assessment of the total damage will be conducted by the revenue department, and a comprehensive report will be submitted to senior authorities to determine additional relief and compensation.
