Himachal: Political Turmoil Erupts After Minister Vikramaditya Singh’s Statement; Clash Among Ministers and Officials
Himachal Pradesh is witnessing political turbulence following a statement by Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh targeting government officials. The minister said, “We believe in speaking politely, but anyone who obstructs or disrespects us will not be spared. We fear no one.”
The statement has intensified political clashes and conflicting statements within the Congress government. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is currently on a Delhi visit, and clarity on the matter is expected after his return. The state cabinet meeting on January 19 may include discussions on this issue.
Sukhu’s close aide Suresh Kumar, MLA from Hamirpur, said that if a minister performs well, officials automatically work efficiently. He advised ministers to introspect and provide clear directives rather than blaming officials.
Meanwhile, BJP state vice-president Bihari Lal Sharma criticized the Congress government, saying ministers and officials are entangled in disputes while the public suffers. Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi also responded. Negi noted that elected representatives have a separate platform to voice concerns, and statements in public are inappropriate.
Additionally, Minister Jagat Singh Negi mentioned that the government is considering legislation to control pesticide prices. He also emphasized the priority of cannabis cultivation, with separate SOPs and funds allocated to strengthen farmers’ and horticulturists’ livelihoods.
