Bhanupalli-Bilaspur Rail Line: Commissioning Up to Thalu in March, Train Operations Expected by April

Bhanupalli–Bilaspur Rail Line: Construction Complete Up to Thalu, Commissioning in March, Train Operations Expected by April

The construction of the Bhanupalli–Bilaspur rail line up to Thalu has been fully completed. Following the release of ₹700 crore by the Railway Board, the stalled project work has resumed. The commissioning process is scheduled for March 2026, with train operations expected to begin in April.

Major Relief for the Project

The long-awaited rail line project, which faced delays due to construction, funding, and technical challenges, has finally received major relief. Officials stated that the track, sleepers, rail panels, and technical infrastructure up to Thalu are fully ready. Only inspection and approval from the Railway Safety Commissioner remain.

Trial Run and Operations

A month ago, a goods train (DMT) was run up to Thalu to unload rail panels and other materials, confirming that the track is technically usable. After commissioning, a trial run will take place, and upon successful completion, the railway administration will take the final decision on train operations.

Funding and Future Plans

After a long dispute between the state and central government over funding, the release of ₹700 crore has allowed work to resume. The funds will be used for construction from Paharpur to Bilaspur. The proposal to increase the total project cost to ₹13,000 crore is still pending, but current funding has put the work back on track.

Regional Significance

The Bhanupalli–Bilaspur rail line is considered one of the most important railway projects in Himachal Pradesh. Once completed, Bilaspur will have direct rail connectivity, benefiting cement, industry, and trade, boosting tourism, creating employment opportunities for local youth, and reducing dependency on road transport in the hilly region.
