Minister-Officer Controversy in Himachal Turns into Open Debate
The recent spark over minister-officer relations in Himachal Pradesh has escalated into an open debate. While some ministers are distancing themselves from the issue, Education Minister Rohit Thakur has openly supported MLA Vikramaditya Singh, raising the political temperature.
Vikramaditya Singh, who had been isolated following the controversy, continues to receive support from the cabinet. Recently, cabinet ministers Jagat Singh Negi, Anirudh Singh, and Rajesh Dharmani had also advised him.
During a media interaction in Shimla on Friday, Rohit Thakur stated that a negative mindset is not limited to All India cadre officers but can also exist among state cadre officials. He described Vikramaditya Singh as an experienced and capable minister and appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for intervention.
Rohit also praised the contribution of IAS, IPS, and IFS officers from other states in the development of Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing that it is unfair to judge all officers based on a single statement or viewpoint. He rejected the need to escalate the matter to the cabinet, calling it a family issue that should be resolved directly by the Chief Minister.
The minister-officer dispute has now spilled over to social media, where supporters are confronting each other. The issue has taken on not only an administrative but also a political and emotional dimension, with posts from various ministers and their supporters targeting one another.
