Two-Day-Old Newborn Stolen in Baddi, Recovered from UP; Couple Arrested
A case of newborn baby theft has come to light from Bilawali in the Baddi area of Solan district, Himachal Pradesh. A two-day-old baby was stolen from a woman, following which the police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, it was found that a neighbouring couple living in the same building had gone missing on the same day.
Acting swiftly, the police traced the accused and recovered the newborn safely from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The accused couple was arrested and brought to Baddi. The baby has been handed over to the biological mother.

A woman from Patna, Bihar, and another woman from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, were living as tenants in a house owned by Nirmal Singh in Bilawali, Baddi. The woman from Rampur has been married for nine years but has no children, while the woman from Bihar was expecting her fourth child. Both women had mutually agreed that if the fourth child was a girl, she would be given to the Rampur woman.
On January 9, the Bihar woman gave birth to a baby boy after three daughters. When the Rampur woman went to take the child, the mother refused to give him due to the baby being a boy. On January 11, the accused woman, along with her husband, allegedly stole the baby in a pre-planned manner from the adjoining room when the mother was not present.
Initially, the mother believed the baby would be returned after feeding. However, when the baby did not return by evening and the neighbours’ room remained locked, she lodged a complaint at the women’s police station.
The police promptly traced the accused woman and sent a team to Rampur, where the baby was found in her custody. The police recovered the child and brought both the baby and the accused couple back to Baddi.
ASP Ashok Verma confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The baby has been safely handed over to his biological mother.
