Himachal: CM Sukhu Announces All Anganwadi Centres to Become Anganwadi-cum-Pre-Schools, Focus on Play-Based Learning

Himachal: All Anganwadi Centres to Become Anganwadi-cum-Pre-Schools, Major Welfare Initiatives for Girls and Women

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that all 18,925 Anganwadi centres in the state will be developed as “Anganwadi-cum-Pre-Schools.” These centres will provide play-based early education to children aged 3 to 6 years. Anganwadi workers will receive specialized training to strengthen the foundation of children’s education.

The Chief Minister stated that over the past three years, the state government has taken bold and significant steps to reform the system. The initiatives aim to empower women, make them self-reliant, and ensure inclusive development in the state. He also highlighted that the state’s child sex ratio has improved from 947 to 964 in the past three years, reflecting the government’s continuous efforts to ensure the safety and dignity of girls.

Welfare Schemes for Girls

Under the Indira Gandhi Sukha Suraksha Yojana, families below the poverty line who have a girl child receive ₹25,000 at the time of birth. Additionally, both parents are provided life insurance of ₹2 lakh each, which can be claimed when the girl turns 18 or, if she wishes, up to 27 years of age. This initiative further strengthens the “Beti Hai Anmol” scheme.

Safety and Hostels for Women

To ensure the safety of working women, the state government has approved the construction of 13 new women’s hostels across districts including Solan, Palampur, Baddi, Gagret, and Nagrota-Bagwan. An estimated ₹132 crore will be spent on these hostels, which will provide women with safe and affordable accommodation facilities.
