Himachal Pradesh Issues SOP for 40% Subsidy to Convert Petrol and Diesel Taxis to E-Taxis
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme to convert petrol and diesel taxis into electric taxis. According to the Transport Department notification, the scheme will provide up to 40% subsidy for a maximum of 1,000 taxis, with a cap of ₹20 lakh per vehicle.
The initiative aims to promote green mobility in the state and create self-employment opportunities. The notification has come into immediate effect. Only owners of commercially operated petrol or diesel taxis registered in Himachal Pradesh are eligible to apply. Vehicles older than five years will be given priority.
Vehicles for private use, CNG, or already electric vehicles are excluded from the scheme. The application process will be launched through advertisements issued by the Transport Department. Applicants must submit necessary documents including a bonafide certificate, vehicle registration, valid permit, fitness certificate, and insurance documents.
Under the SOP, after subsidy approval, beneficiaries must purchase a new electric taxi of an approved model, and scrapping of the old vehicle is mandatory. Regional Transport Officers will verify applications, prepare a priority list, and forward it to the Directorate for a state-level list.
