Himachal: Manali-Leh Route to Become Safer, Defence Minister to Virtually Inaugurate Four Projects

Manali-Leh Route to Become Safer as Defence Minister to Virtually Inaugurate Four New Projects on December 7

The strategic Manali-Leh route in Himachal Pradesh will soon become safer and more accessible for heavy military vehicles and tourists. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will virtually inaugurate four major projects developed under the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) Project Deepak on December 7.

BRO has invested nearly ₹18 crore in these projects, which include a 70-meter-long Shogtong Bridge, two multi-cell box culverts at Jingjingbar, and a 60-meter-long Unam Bridge at Keeling Sarai. All bridges have been constructed using advanced technology to ensure year-round heavy vehicle movement.

Colonel Gaurav Bangaru, Commander of Project Deepak, stated that the Defence Minister will inaugurate 125 new projects across the country on December 7, including these four strategic projects of Project Deepak. The new bridges are expected to significantly ease longstanding issues on the Manali-Leh route, including avalanche zones, swollen streams, and unpaved paths.

Earlier, vehicles had to navigate rough streams and rocky paths, posing challenges for both military convoys and civilians. With the new bridges, the route will now remain reliable, smooth, and safer despite harsh weather conditions.

Tourists will also enjoy a better travel experience on this high-altitude highway. BRO has completed all preparations, and these projects are expected to strengthen traffic and operational efficiency on this strategically important Manali-Leh route.
