Himachal: Red Ribbon Club Campaign Launched in Colleges to Curb Rising HIV Among Youth

Kangra (Himachal Pradesh): Observing the rising HIV infections among youth in Himachal Pradesh, the Health Department has launched an awareness campaign through Red Ribbon Clubs in colleges. The initiative aims to educate students about the causes, prevention, and importance of timely testing of HIV/AIDS.

In Kangra district, 29 colleges are conducting seminars, workshops, awareness rallies, and dialogue programs through Red Ribbon Clubs. Volunteers are encouraging youth to practice safe behavior, avoid misconceptions, and adopt a sensitive attitude toward HIV-positive individuals.

According to Health Department data, the state has a total of 6,490 HIV cases, including 3,613 men and 2,842 women. District-wise, the highest number of cases are in Kangra (1,722) and Hamirpur (1,071).

Dr. Rajesh Sood, District Health Officer, Kangra, stated that the campaign is currently active in 29 ITI and engineering colleges, and proper awareness and education can effectively reduce the infection rate.
