Himachal Accident: Driverless Passenger Bus Rolls into Gorge

Chamba (Himachal Pradesh):
A major road accident was narrowly avoided on Thursday morning in Samot town of Bhatiyat Assembly constituency in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh. A private bus operating on the Samot–Dadariyada route went out of control around 9:00 am and plunged into a gorge. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported, though a few passengers sustained minor injuries.

According to information, the private bus was parked near the taxi stand chowk in Samot town and was waiting for passengers from another bus. At that time, the driver was not present on his seat. Suddenly, the bus shifted into neutral and, due to the downward slope, started moving on its own.

Around a dozen passengers were inside the bus when it began to roll. Panic broke out among the passengers as the bus started moving. Before anyone could react, the bus slid straight for about 30 to 40 meters and fell into a gorge near a natural water source.

Local residents present at the spot immediately initiated rescue and relief operations. They descended into the gorge and safely evacuated the trapped passengers from the bus. No passenger suffered serious injuries; however, some who were frightened or had minor injuries were taken to the hospital as a precaution for first aid.

Upon receiving information, police personnel and an ambulance reached the spot. The police inspected the accident site and have begun investigating the cause of the incident. Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani stated that the bus went out of control and slid off the road, but no loss of life or property occurred. Further investigation is underway.
