Corruption Alleged in Himachal: Complainant Says Work Denied Without Liquor and Meat

Ghumarwin (Himachal Pradesh):
A serious case of alleged corruption came to light during the Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar program held at Kot Panchayat under the Ghumarwin Assembly constituency, when a complainant openly accused officials and employees of the Revenue Department of demanding bribes. In the presence of Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, the complainant alleged that liquor and meat were being demanded in exchange for land partition (Takseem).

The complainant, Sita Ram, son of Ram Lal and a resident of Brahmali village, stated that he earns his livelihood through daily wage labour. He has been approaching the Revenue Department for a long time to get his ancestral land partitioned, but his file has allegedly been deliberately delayed because he is unable to fulfill the unethical demands of the staff.

Sita Ram further said that due to the pending land partition, he has been unable to construct even a toilet at his residence. Owing to legal complications and administrative apathy, his family has been forced to live under extremely difficult conditions. He also mentioned that although a Naib Tehsildar conducted a site inspection and prepared a report in 2024, no action has been taken so far.

Taking strong note of the complaint, Minister Rajesh Dharmani reprimanded the concerned officials on the spot. He stated that demanding such favours from a poor individual amounts to corruption and is completely inhuman. The minister ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter and warned that strict action would be taken against the guilty if the allegations are found to be true.

Following the minister’s directives, the Deputy Commissioner present at the program immediately summoned the relevant file and assured a thorough investigation. He said efforts would be made to identify the officials responsible for the delay and those involved in making unethical demands.
