Uttarakhand HRTC Bus Accident: Fight Over Cash Bag, Police Return Bag to Injured Passenger’s Family

An HRTC bus traveling from Shimla via Nerwa to Vikasnagar-Paonta Sahib met with an accident near Kwanu in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Three people died in the accident, and several others were injured. At the site, a bag full of cash was found, creating chaos among onlookers.

The bag contained ₹3.2 lakh. People began fighting over the cash, claiming it as their own. Kalsi Police Station In-Charge Deepak Dhariwal said the bag was seized by police and the authorities were informed.

Police later contacted the injured passenger, Abdul Qayyum, who runs a crockery shop in Nerwa and was admitted to Vikasnagar Government Hospital. In the presence of the Sub-Divisional Officer of Chakrata, the bag was handed over to his family. The bag also contained Abdul’s PAN card and photo ID, confirming ownership. His daughter, Saniya, received the bag.

A team from Shimla district administration visited the hospital to meet the injured and provide immediate relief. The team included ADM Law and Order Pankaj Sharma and Naib Tehsildar Chand Verma. Each injured person was given ₹5,000, referred patients received ₹10,000, and the families of the deceased were given ₹25,000 as immediate assistance.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap stated that although the accident occurred in Uttarakhand, the local administration and officials promptly assisted in the rescue operation.
