New Roads, Flyovers, and Tunnels to Improve Traffic in Shimla; ADB to Provide Funding
Shimla, the capital city, is planning new infrastructure projects to address traffic congestion caused by the growing number of vehicles. The project includes construction of alternative roads, flyovers, and tunnels, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Consultants will also assist in preparing detailed project plans.
Drone surveys will identify locations with heavy traffic during morning and evening peak hours. Plans are also being made to streamline truck and tourist vehicle movement during apple and tourism seasons.
Efforts are underway to finalize plans for key roads, including the Circular Road, and consultants will prepare feasibility studies and Detailed Project Reports (DPR).
A project costing ₹122 crore is planned to widen Circular Road, which includes acquiring private land. Flyovers and bridges on Cart Road and near the Legislative Assembly are under construction to reduce traffic jams. Completion of these projects this year is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the city.
