Himachal’s Japanese Fruit to Brighten Uttarakhand Gardens, Plants Being Procured from Kullu

Himachal’s Japanese Fruit Now in Uttarakhand Gardens, High Demand for Kullu Nursery Plants

High-quality Japanese fruit plants from Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh are seeing growing demand in neighboring Uttarakhand. Gardeners in the “Devbhumi” region are preparing to grow the Fuyu variety of Japanese fruit in their orchards to boost their income.

So far, nearly 200,000 plants have been sent from Kullu nurseries to Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and the northeastern states, with around 100,000 plants going to Uttarakhand alone. Due to superior quality and favorable climate, Uttarakhand gardeners trust Kullu nurseries the most. The seedless Fuyu variety is in the highest demand.

Sunil Rana, General Secretary of the Kullu Sadar Fruit Producers Organization, said that gardeners in areas including Laghati have made Japanese fruit their main source of income. Kullu nurseries generate crores in business every year, and more than 80% of plant stock is expected to run out by the end of February.

Uttarakhand gardeners have placed advance orders for thousands of plants, which are being supplied at a price range of ₹100–200 per plant.

Japanese Fruit Rich in Medicinal Benefits
The growing popularity of this fruit is also due to its health benefits. It is rich in vitamins A and C, fiber, and is beneficial for the heart, eyes, and digestive system. Its high antioxidant content also helps boost immunity.

High Demand for Kullu Apples and Plums
Following recent rain and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, the demand for Kullu apple and plum plants has doubled, with the potential to generate crores in business.
