AIIMS Bilaspur Introduces Advanced Key-Hole Surgery: Faster Recovery, Less Pain, and Cost-Effective
AIIMS Bilaspur is taking significant steps to expand advanced healthcare facilities in Himachal Pradesh. The institute’s Orthopedic Department is being equipped with a state-of-the-art arthroscopic surgery system, costing around ₹4 crore. This system will reduce patients’ dependence on major cities and provide world-class joint surgeries within the state.
Until now, patients requiring complex knee, shoulder, and ankle surgeries had to travel to Chandigarh, Delhi, or other metro cities, incurring higher costs, time, and physical strain. Arthroscopic, or key-hole, surgery addresses these challenges by performing the operation through a tiny incision using a high-definition camera and precision instruments.
Compared to traditional surgery, this minimally invasive technique offers reduced pain, less blood loss, lower infection risk, and faster recovery. Most patients can be discharged within 24–48 hours, eliminating the need for prolonged bed rest, making it especially beneficial for office-goers, farmers, women, and elderly patients.
Arthroscopic surgery is highly effective in treating injuries like ACL, PCL, meniscus, and rotator cuff tears, common among youth and athletes. The high-definition camera system allows surgeons to clearly visualize internal joint structures, accurately identify damaged areas, and protect surrounding nerves and muscles, enhancing both surgical success and patient safety.
