AIIMS Bilaspur to Install 64-Channel Video EEG Machine, Bringing Relief to Children with Neurological Disorders
In a major relief for children suffering from serious neurological conditions and their families, AIIMS Bilaspur is set to install a state-of-the-art 64-channel Video EEG and Polysomnography machine in its Pediatrics Department. Once operational, children will no longer need to travel to Chandigarh or Delhi for diagnosis and treatment of brain and sleep-related disorders.
Currently, the limited EEG facilities available in the state make it difficult to accurately diagnose complex neurological cases. The new advanced machine will be capable of capturing even the smallest brain signals. Equipped with high-definition cameras, it will simultaneously record brain waves and physical movements during seizures, helping doctors accurately identify the type of epilepsy and determine appropriate medication dosage.
The 64-channel system will allow detailed mapping of every part of the brain. It will also include advanced sleep analysis features to diagnose conditions such as sleep apnea, snoring, and sleepwalking. During overnight studies, the machine will continuously monitor oxygen levels, heart rate, and brain activity.
Unlike conventional EEG systems, the portable electrode box will allow children limited movement during testing, reducing fear and improving the accuracy of results. Currently, 64-channel Video EEG tests in private hospitals cost between ₹10,000 and ₹25,000, whereas this facility at AIIMS will be available at minimal or no cost.
AIIMS Bilaspur also plans to set up a dedicated EEG room designed to provide a home-like environment for patients. The system will feature AI-based software to assist doctors in identifying abnormal brain regions, minimizing the risk of human error. The company will also be responsible for machine maintenance for the next ten years. This advanced diagnostic facility is expected to be a milestone in pediatric neurological care in the region.
