New Cyber Fraud Cases in Himachal: Fake PM Housing Scheme Link and ATM Scam
In the era of Digital India, fraudsters are increasingly targeting government schemes and banking systems. In Nalsooha, Jaswan-Paragpur assembly area, a man named Ravikant fell victim after clicking a fake PM Housing Scheme link.
Ravikant reported that on January 20, he received a WhatsApp link related to the scheme. Clicking on it led to his phone being completely hacked. He immediately contacted his bank in Dehra to freeze his account, but due to delays, around ₹7 lakh from his fixed deposit was withdrawn. Transaction alerts were missed as his SIM was inactive at the time.
Ravikant has now filed a written complaint with SP Dehra and the Cyber Crime Cell. SP Mayank Chaudhary confirmed the complaint. Experts have warned the public to avoid clicking on tempting links received via WhatsApp or SMS (such as free housing, lottery, or electricity bill links). If a phone is hacked, visit the bank immediately to block your account.
