Himachal: No Special Session, Budget Session to be Held; RDG to Be Discussed
After the Union Budget discontinued the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) for states, the Himachal government’s proposal to hold a one-day special Assembly session was not approved by the Governor. Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania met the Governor on Friday morning to discuss the proposal.
According to senior Lok Bhawan officials, the Governor suggested holding the budget session instead of a special session. Officials noted that the RDG-related proposal can still be passed during the budget session. During a half-hour discussion, the government emphasized the need to register opposition to the RDG discontinuation and to protect Himachal’s interests through the Assembly.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu said the government has accepted the Governor’s suggestion, and the budget session notification will be issued soon. He clarified that there will be no special session and the RDG issue will be discussed during the budget session. The CM highlighted that Himachal’s special grant, received as RDG, has been discontinued after 72 years. He urged BJP MLAs to present their views in the budget session and dismissed misinformation being spread on social media.
