Himachal: State May Relax Land Purchase Rules for Cooperatives, One-Time Settlement Policy for Small Farmers Soon

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the state government is considering relaxing Section 118 norms to allow cooperative societies to purchase land in Himachal Pradesh. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the two-day National Cooperative Conference held at Peterhof, Shimla.

The CM highlighted that over 5,000 cooperative societies are currently active in the state, including around 2,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) that are providing services to farmers and rural communities. To support small farmers, laborers, horticulturists, and traders, the State Cooperative Bank will soon launch a One-Time Settlement (OTS) Policy.

Cooperatives Strengthening Rural Economy

CM Sukhu emphasized the crucial role of cooperatives in strengthening the rural economy, especially given the state's challenging geography and small landholdings. He noted that the cooperative movement began in 1904 and gained momentum after Himachal achieved statehood in 1971.

Kangra Bank Board Dissolved, Cyber Security Center Inaugurated

Due to irregularities during the previous government, the current administration has dissolved the entire board of the Kangra Central Cooperative Bank. The CM also inaugurated a Cyber Security Operations Center at the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank to ensure digital safety.

Youth to Be Linked with Sahkar Taxi Scheme

Union Minister of State for Cooperation, Krishan Pal Gurjar, stated that the Sahkar Taxi Scheme will be introduced in Himachal, linking local youth to tourism-based taxi services and empowering them economically. He also mentioned that Tribhuvan Cooperative University has been established, and affiliating Himachal institutions with it will help develop skilled human resources. A proposal to reduce affiliation fees for hill states is also under consideration.

Focus on Natural Farming and Women Empowerment

Uttarakhand Cooperation Minister Dhan Singh Rawat highlighted that the cooperative movement has become a significant force in India. In Uttarakhand, 10 lakh farmers have benefited from cooperative-based agricultural loans, and the government aims to connect 15 lakh people through cooperatives. He also stressed the importance of natural farming and women empowerment through cooperative efforts.
