Himachal Pradesh Seeks ₹1,227 Crore from Centre Under Jal Jeevan Mission; Deputy CM Meets Union Minister

New Delhi: The Himachal Pradesh government has sought ₹1,227 crore from the Centre to complete ongoing schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri met Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, in Delhi and discussed the state’s urgent needs in light of recent natural disasters.

Agnihotri informed the Union Minister that the state’s Jal Shakti Department has suffered losses amounting to nearly ₹4,000 crore over the past three years, including ₹2,132.70 crore in the year 2023 alone. This year, the department has already faced losses worth ₹1,291.51 crore.

He further stated that although ₹697 crore was sanctioned for the water supply sector in 2023, only ₹100 crore has been received so far, severely impacting restoration work. The Deputy CM urged the Centre to release funds promptly under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA).

Agnihotri also presented a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth ₹1,795 crore for flood protection and raised the issue of approving a modernization plan for command area development. In response, Union Minister Patil assured that he would personally look into the matter and consider relaxing PDNA norms to expedite restoration efforts.
