JP Nadda: Khadi Not Just Fabric, But a Symbol of Freedom and Backbone of Self-Reliant India
Bilaspur. BJP National President JP Nadda, during his three-day visit to Bilaspur, visited the Khadi store at Chetna Chowk on Thursday. He purchased Katia Matia silk kurta-pajama worth ₹4,632 and made the payment digitally.
Khadi is more than just fabric; it was a powerful tool in India's fight for independence," said Nadda. Mahatma Gandhi used Khadi to unite the nation through the Swadeshi movement.”
He pointed out that post-independence, Khadi was neglected for a long time. However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Khadi movement has been revived. In the year 2024-25, the Khadi industry achieved a record turnover of ₹1.70 lakh crore — the highest so far. Khadi production rose by 337% and sales by 447%.
Extending greetings on the occasion of Vijayadashami, Nadda said:
"This festival symbolizes the victory of truth and strength. Let us adopt Khadi, support Swadeshi, and contribute towards building a self-reliant India."
He appealed to the youth to make Khadi a part of their lifestyle, highlighting that it is not only eco-friendly but also preserves the cultural heritage of the country.
