Race for HP Congress President Intensifies, Rohit Thakur and Rathore Meet Senior Leaders in Delhi
New Delhi/Shimla: The race for the post of Himachal Pradesh Congress President is gaining momentum, with key leaders engaging in high-level discussions. On Tuesday, Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Congress national spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Rathore reached New Delhi and held meetings with senior party leaders at the AICC headquarters.
Interestingly, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were in Shimla on the same day. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already stated that a decision regarding the state president will be finalized by the end of October.
Rohit Thakur has expressed his interest in taking up the role and has said he is ready to accept the responsibility if the high command chooses him. He has also clarified his position before CM Sukhu. While one faction within the party is backing Thakur, another group is supporting Kuldeep Singh Rathore.
Both leaders hail from Shimla district and belong to the Rajput community. Other prominent names in the race include Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar, who has met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders. MLAs Vinod Sultanpuri (Kasauli) and Sanjay Awasthi (Arki) are also being considered among the possible contenders.
