Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off 20 electric taxis on Wednesday morning under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme. He also handed over keys to the drivers. These vehicles will be deployed in various government departments as part of the state's push to reduce diesel vehicles and promote environmental sustainability.
CM Sukhu stated that 80 unemployed youth have been approved to operate electric taxis with 50% subsidy under the scheme. Notably, no bank guarantee is required, and the government will pay monthly rent based on the vehicle's value.
Earlier, the CM participated in the State Conference of the Electricity Board Employees Union at Peterhof, Shimla, and unveiled the union’s souvenir. Around 1,300 representatives are expected to attend the post-noon delegate session, followed by union elections.
In a significant gesture, TVS Motors’ Y.S. Guleria presented a ₹1 crore cheque to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The CM expressed gratitude and urged the affluent sections of society to contribute generously to help those in need during difficult times.
