Three-Year Jail Term for Selling Fake B.Ed Degrees, ₹50,000 Fine Imposed
Dharamshala: A man has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000 for selling fake B.Ed degrees and cheating aspiring students. The verdict was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Hakikat Dhanda’s court. If the fine is not paid, the convict will face additional imprisonment.
The convict, Bodh Raj, a resident of Kail in Dalhousie Tehsil, Chamba district, was residing in Dharamshala and allegedly lured youth by promising B.Ed degrees under the name of Lucknow University. The scam occurred between 2001 and 2004, during which Bodh Raj, along with accomplices, defrauded candidates from various states of a total of ₹12.83 lakh. Over 50 of the victims were reportedly from the Pangi area of Chamba district.
According to the prosecution, fake mark sheets and degrees were issued in the name of Lucknow University under the pretense of admissions. Eight cases were registered against him in Kangra under charges of fraud and other criminal sections. Based on the testimony of witnesses and evidence presented, the court found Bodh Raj guilty. The prosecution was led by Additional District Public Prosecutor Gaurav Kumar.
